The intrinsic safety of the new Alfa 166 hinges on the torsional rigidity of its
body that helps guarantee maximum stability and roadholding.
The body is surrounded by a specification array of uncompromising quality
and generosity: an FPS (Fire Prevention System) to cut off fuel flow in the
case of impact, a full-size double airbag at the front (the passenger airbag
can be deactivated) and front sidebags.
The very latest innovations concern side impact protection: impact bars in the
doors and interior energy-absorbing trim are complemented by new front head
bags fitted beneath the car ceiling trim.
These are activated only in the case of impacts with a strong lateral component
and perform the task of protecting front occupants’ heads by interposing themselves
between the heads and more rigid passenger compartment components.
