A new 6-speed manual gearbox and a 4-speed Sportronic automatic
transmission are available to transmit all the engine power to the wheels.
The automatic gearbox, a true blend of technological excellence and sporting
flair, adapts automatically to your driving style or may be maneuvered in the
same way as a manual sequential gearbox.
The system communicates permanently with the ABS control unit to monitor the
speed of each individual wheel and vehicle progress on the straight or over bends
and over dry or slipper y ground. It adds an engine brake effect while braking and
prevents a higher speed being engaged on corners with significant lateral acceleration.
At the same time, it assures the best sports performance by
maintaining a speed in the same way as a manual unit and reaching
speeds up to a limit of 5000 rpm while accelerating.

TECHNOLOGY AND PASSION

The petrol engine range includes an absolute first for the Alfa 166: the scintillating 3.2 V6 24 valve unit.
A power unit with truly top-ranking per formance: 176.5 kW (240bhp) available with all the gradation and smoothness of a six-cylinder unit.
To achieve these results, the very best of Alfa automotive research and engineering were poured into the development of a new crankshaft,
camshafts with a new timing setting and new pistons that increase capacity by extending the stroke by 78 millimeters.
This feature provides high power peaks and high torque levels while also ensuring smooth, regular delivery from low speeds.
The solution has been developed to offer drivers exhilarating performance without forgetting the need for daily use in the traffic-filled streets
of our great cities.
The new 3.2 V6 24-valve petrol unit represents the pinnacle of an engine range that sets the new Alfa 166 at the top of the executive saloon sector.
The model offers a comprehensive range of engines that feature extraordinarily generous power and sportiness in the line with Alfa Romeos unmatched motorsport tradition.
The other petrol engine available is a 220 bhp 3.0 V6 (with 4-speed Sportronic automatic transmission).
