TWO SUPERB GEARBOXES THAT THRILL AND ENTHRAL

The sports, state-of-the-art, six-speed gearbox is fitted on 2.0 T. Spark,
2.5 V6 24V and 3.0 V6 24V Super versions. 3.0 V6 24V version of the Alfa166
can be specified with the Sportronic Electronic Automatic Gearbox (EAG).
This four speed unit interacts continuously wirth the engine management
computer and the ABS control sensors on the wheels so that it can 'understand'
what's happening on the road. It can then make the appropriate adjustments to
its operation by automatically changing gear at higher or lower revs.
The EAG can also actually 'sense' the driver's needs from the way the car is being
handled and the circunstances it finds itself in.
In its 'self-adaptive memory' are 12 different programmes that are automatically
accessed according to the driving style detected.
In addition, the driver can select manual sequential control - the clutchless gearchange system.
In order to change gear in sequential mode, all the driver needs to do is just nudge the gearshift
forward (to change up) and backwards (to change down).
